Abstract

Detergent compositions having synergistic foaming properties comprise a sodium C10-C14 alkane sulphonate and are of the following: A sodium alkoxyhydroxypropane sulphonate, the alkoxy group having 12 to 18 carbon atoms; the triethanolamine salt of lauryl sulphate; octylamine. Synergistic foaming is considered to exist when the foam volume produced by a composition in a given test is more than 35 ml. above the arithmetic sum of the foam volumes of the individual components of the composition. Compositions specified comprise a mixture of (1) sodium decane-sulphonate and sodium 3-dodecyloxy-2-hydroxy-propane sulphonate in a weight ratio of 0.6 : 1 to 17 : 1; (2) sodium dodecanesulphonate and sodium 3 - dodecyloxy - 2 -hydroxypropane sulphonate in a weight ratio of 0.125 : 1 to 35 : 1; (3) sodium tetradecanesulphonate and sodium 3 - dodecyloxy - 2 - hydroxypropane sulphonate in a weight ratio of 0.6 : 1 to 1.1 : 1; (4) sodium dodecanesulphonate and sodium 3-octadecyloxy - 2 - hydroxypropanesulphonate in a weight ratio of 0.2 : 1 to 50 : 1; (5) sodium dodecanesulphonate and octylamine in a weight ratio of 1.1 : 1 and 70 : 1; and (6) sodium dodecane sulphonate and the triethanolamine salt of lauryl sulphate in a weight ratio of 0.16 : 1 to 3 : 1. Other ingredients specified are sodium tripolyphosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, sodium silicate, sodium sulphate, and sodium carboxyl methyl cellulose.
