Abstract
CaSO4 containing HF and H2SO4 is neutralized by adding calcium aluminate, silicate, or aluminosilicate (e.g. blast furnace or coal power station slag, fly ash, trass, or feldspar) followed by CaO and/or Ca(OH)2. The CaSO4 is a by-product in the production of HF from CaF2 and H2SO4. The materials are reacted in finely-ground form, e.g. at least 90% less than 90m in diameter. Preferred proportions are 70-95% CaSO4, 4.5-29.5% first additives and 0.5-2% second additives. Small amounts of K2SO4 or FeSO4 may be added to accelerate setting speed. The products can be used as hydraulic binders, drying agents, and fillers. The following are said to be formed in situ, and impart strength or hardness to the set product: CaSO4, Al2(SO4)3, CaF2, SiO2.x H2O, Casilicate, and Ca aluminate.
