982,697. Moulding building blocks. W. A. SMITH. June 7, 1962 [Aug. 1, 1961; Dec. 29, 1961], Nos. 22066/62 and 22067/62. Divided out of 982,696. Heading B5A. A building block 10 Specification 982,696 [see Division E1] is moulded by filling a mould 23 with cement, breeze, re-constructed stone or compressed fibres and clay in a powdered semi-dry condition, removing surplus material with a levelling bar 28, placing a marking frame 32 on the mould, so that marking projections 34 penetrate the material, pressing tie members 20 into the material at the marked positions, placing a template 31, which has ribs 36, 37, 38 to form grooves 16, 17, 18 in the block 10, on to the material so that the tie members 20 are disposed intermediate the ribs 36, 37, 38 and do not register with openings 39, which receive anchor members 19, moving the mould 23 along tracks 25 on to a base-plate 43 beneath a ram 44 of a power press and lowering the ram to compress the material and embed the tie members 20 and anchor members 19 into the material so that the anchor members 19 are also subjected to pressure but project beyond the back face 15 of the block 10 during compression and are thus spaced accurately from the front face 12. The tie members 20 are not entirely surrounded by material so that one part of them can be bent outwardly from the face 15 of the moulded block. After moulding, the base-plate 43 is raised to eject the block 10. U- and V-shaped anchor members may also be used. To ensure that the cross-part 47 of a U-shaped member 46, Fig. 5, is spaced from the back face of the block 10 sand 51 is inserted in the openings 39 prior to insertion of the member 46.
