Abstract

982,405. Printed circuits. INTERNATIONAL RESISTANCE CO. June 29, 1961, No. 23625/61. Heading H1R. [Also in Division H2] A printed circuit panel carries the same electrical circuit on opposite sides of a base plate of insulating material, both circuits being connected together in parallel relationship. A flat base plate 12 of plastic, glass or ceramic is provided on opposite sides with two patterns 14, 14<SP>1</SP> of electrically conductive material, each pattern comprising a set of conductors 18, 18<SP>1</SP> and terminal areas 16, 16<SP>1</SP> respectively which are formed by vacuum deposition, spraying or brushing of conductive inks, or chemically or electrically etching sheets of copper bonded to the base. The terminal areas of the respective patterns 14, 14<SP>1</SP> are in alignment with each other and are each provided with a pair of spaced holes 20 which extend through the base. Connection between two opposite terminal areas is effected by a metallic U-shaped pin 22 whose arms 24 pass through the holes 20 and are soldered to the terminal areas by solder 26, 26<SP>1</SP>. Thus components 28, electrically and mechanically connected between the pins 22, are connected together in the desired circuit by two identical, parallel conductive patterns, and each of the components' terminals will have four separate connections to the overall circuit pattern. The pins 22 may have more than two arms and the electrical conductors 18, 18<SP>1</SP> may be arranged so that they are not in direct overlapping relation such as 18a, 18b. In the modifications of Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), the terminal areas are made up of two separate terminal portions connected in series or parallel, each of the arms of the pin 22 extending through a separate one of the terminal portions thus preventing a meniscus of solder from forming between the arms of the pins on dip-soldering.
