982,396. Ice-making. A. J. ROSS. May 9, 1961, No. 16870/61. Heading F4H. In ice-making apparatus of the type described in Specification 883,026, a heater is provided for heating the refrigerant in the evaporator. This overcomes the difficulty in restarting the apparatus which occurs when the ice-making apparatus is shut off after a period of operation, due to the freezing-up of the ice-removing device, i.e. the helical scraper. In the prior Specification, the ice-making apparatus is disposed vertically, but in a modification in the present Specification, as shown in Fig. 13, the apparatus is disposed horizontally. Ice, formed on the surface of the evaporator 16, is removed with the helical scraper 16. To prevent freezing-up when the apparatus is shut off, a tubular sheath 198 is provided to extend into the accumulator chamber 151b, and an immersion heater 199 is disposed therein to heat the refrigerant in the accumulator chamber. Condensers.-The refrigerating system of the apparatus, together with the apparatus, is mounted in a continuous tubular condenser, Fig. 1, forming the five sides of an open rectangular box.
