Abstract
982,018. Pipe couplings. AVIMO Ltd. Oct. 9, 1963 [Oct. 25, 1962], No. 40476/62. Heading F2G. A pipe coupling comprises a bayonet plug 1 co-operable with a bayonet socket 4, the plug 1 having axially movable locking tongues 15 engageable in slots 9 of the socket 4 which are wider than at least one of the tongues 15 so that at least one tongue enters a slot before the others to provide a first stage in locking when the parts are relatively rotated for coupling, further relative rotation allowing additional engagement between some or all other tongue(s) and the corresponding slot(s). The inside of the plug and socket are protected against attack by corrosive chemicals by a synthetic rubber lining 6 which forms a tight joint between the said parts at 7 and 8 when they are coupled. The slots 9 (Fig. 2) are cammed to draw the spigot and socket together when they are engaged and rotated relatively to each other. Two or more tongues 15 of progressively increasing width co-operate with an equal number of slots allow the coupled parts to be locked with the mating faces 7 and 8 in progressive degrees of compression. The tongues are independently slidable against a spring 16 in a housing carried on the plug. A flexible hose 2 is attached to plug 1 by conventional clips 3. Specification 795,681 is referred to.
