Abstract

981,905. Valves. AEROJET-GENERAL CORPORATION. April 9, 1962, No. 13598/62. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] A valve comprises a stack of annular discs 18 in which at least the alternate members of the stack are corrugated and resilient. These members may be separated by annular rigid rings, as shown, or by further corrugated resilient members so that a flow path is provided between the discs when in their natural state. The stack is spaced from the housing by axial ribs 14 and rings 17, 49 seal the ends of the stack to the housing and an end plate 25. The plate may be connected to an operating spindle 26 which applies an axial load to the stack to close the flow path. The valve may also be used as a pressure relief valve, the spindle being connected to a spring-loaded piston which is subjected to the controlled fluid pressure when flow is from the outside to the inside of the stack or the fluid may act on plate 25 when flow is in the opposite direction. When the discs are all resilient and corrugated, the corrugations of adjacent discs are of different radius or slanted in different directions.
