Abstract
981,625. Lamps. MOLE-RICHARDSON (ENGLAND) Ltd. Oct. 24, 1963 [July 26, 1962; May 8, 19631, Nos. 28721/62 and 18239/63. Heading F4R. A lamp adapted to be used selectively either as a flood lamp or as a spot lamp comprises a bowl reflector 1, Fig. 1, for providing flood illumination and a lens 14 for focusing the spot, the bowl and lens facing in different directions so that the light emerges in different directions with alternative use. Conversion from one use to the other is achieved by rotating a spherical mirror 13 mounted on a turntable 18, the mirror being placed adjacent the lens, as shown in full lines, when a flood lamp is required and adjacent a diffusing bowl 16, as shown in chain-dotted lines, when the light is to be passed through the lens. The mirror and the bulb 11 are mounted on slides 22 so that they can be moved together, by means of a rack and pinion 23, 24, to adjust the focus of the spot, and eyes 20, 25 engageable by a hooked long-arm 7 are connected to pinions 19, 23 for rotating the mirror 13 and adjusting the focus respectively. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 3, 5 and 8, the bulb 11 and mirror 13 are fixed to a carriage 27 and a conical diffusing bowl 16 is carried by a bracket 32 mounted on a shaped plate 33 pivoted to the supporting platform 10 at 34. When the diffusing bowl is positioned as shown in Figs. 3 and 5 the lamp operates as a flood lamp. To convert it to a spotlamp the carriage 27 is moved to the right and a projection 36 on the carriage engaging a slot 35 in the plate 33 causes the latter to turn about its pivot 34. After the projection has left the slot the bowl is given its final rotation into the position shown in Fig. 8 by the engagement of a cam 42 (not shown) on the bottom of the carriage with a projection 41 on a link 37 pivoted at one end 38 to the plate 33 and slidable at its other end in a slot 40 in the platform 10. This link acts as a toggle to hold the bowl 16 in its displaced position. When it is again desired to use the lamp as a floodlamp the carriage is moved to the left, whereupon the projection 36 re-enters the slot 35 to restore the bowl to its original position.
