Abstract

879,646. Lamps. MEINERS OPTICAL DEVICES Ltd. March 31, 1958 [April 12, 1957], No. 12045/57. Class 75(4). [Also in Group IX] A beam of light is directed at right angles on to the reed 8 and healds 9 of a loom by means of one or two mirrors, either the source of light or one mirror being traversed across the loom. The source of light 3 comprises a 12 volt incandescent lamp, an optical stop, a lens and/or a parabolic reflector. The mirror 6 may be traversed manually or mechanically. If traversed mechanically, a clutch is provided so that the beam can be arrested at any desired position. The traversing mechanism can be controlled by a photo-electric cell which is sensitive to variation in the beam caused by an irregularity in the loom and stops the beam where it is illuminating the irregularity. The lamp 1 (Fig. 6) and mirror 24 can be combined in a casing 33, the casing traversing the loom and the light being reflected into a fixed mirror 34 extending across the loom. In another embodiment, the casing 33, above the loom, turns on a turntable and turns a second mirror at the back of the loom through a linkage. A traversing mirror may operate an on-off switch for the lamp when moved into and out of its inoperative end position.
