Abstract

An intrauterine device for contraceptive purposes comprises a cage-like element made from flexible rods of synthetic resin material. Preferably three such rods are joined by welding or tying at their mid-points and are equiangularly spaced around this junction. Their free ends are then bent round and joined together to form a generally pear-shaped cage which may be inserted into the uterus. A suture may be attached to secure the device in position and, to avoid the possibility of this becoming detached, it is preferred to make one of the rods tubular and to pass the suture completely through its bore.
