Abstract

A re-ignitable match comprises a combustible core surrounded by a combustible body coated with a thin film. The core is a match composition comprising an oxygen source, a fuel, a combustion rate retarder, and a binder, all dispersed in a dense non-porous polymer. The match composition is preferably one of those described in Specification 980,831. The body will usually not contain an oxygen source, and will employ a fuel such as metaldehyde in a polymer such as monomethyl methacrylate, styrene, polysulphide, acrylonitrile or methyl acrylate. The core and body are simultaneously co-axially extruded and temporarily coated, e.g. with polyethylene, whilst curing is taking place. After curing is completed and the temporary covering removed, the rod is coated with regenerated cellulose, cellulose acetate, P.V.C., or P.V.A.; this coating helps to prevent the body burning faster than the core. The rod is finally cut into suitable lengths.
