980,445. Fish gutting. FISADCO Ltd. May 16, 1963 [June 5, 1962], No. 23152/62. Heading A2U. In a fish gutting machine of the type comprising means for conveying the fish belly downwards over a belly-slitting knife and then over a device which dislodges the guts so that they hang down, a liver separator is provided comprising a pair of coaxial rotating disc knives 9, 10 and spiked wheels 11, 12 mounted on a carrier/casing 17 which can be swung up into the belly cavity for the spikes to become impaled in the liver membranes and drag them on to the knives which then sever them from the cavity. The device, which is particularly suited for use with gutting apparatus as described in Specifications 927,830, 880,394 and 878,957 has a bearing bush 20 on the carrier/casing 17 allowing it to be swung about a shaft 19 in an arc 21 which may be adjusted by means of a bolt, lug, slot device 35, 37<SP>1</SP>, 36. A cam finger 25a on a main sprocket wheel 4 of the fish conveyer engages a cam follower 29 causing movement of a bar 30 which pivots the carrier/casing 17. Slots and bolts 38, 37 provide further adjustment means and a return-spring 39 brings back the bar 30. The knives and spiked wheels assembly has a sprocket 22, chain 23, sprocket 24, shaft 19, sprocket 25, and chain 26, drive connection from the other fish conveyer sprocket wheel remote from the sprocket wheel 4.
