Abstract

980,061. Separating liquid particles from gases. BALDWIN INSTRUMENT CO. Ltd., and R. W. BAKER. June 6, 1961 [March 7, 1960], No. 7942/60. Heading B1T. A device for separating liquid particles from a stream of gas and particularly for removing larger liquid droplets from a combustible gas and air into which a liquid sample for quantitative analysis has been atomized, the gas-air mixture carrying the smaller droplets then being passed to the burner of a photometric analysis apparatus, comprises a chamber 11 into which the droplet-bearing gas is injected through an atomizer 19, for example, of the form described in Specification 980,062. The chamber 11 has an outlet 14 with a downwardly extending guard tube 15. Larger liquid droplets deposit in the chamber and collect in the bottom thereof to a depth determined by a weir 17 in a second chamber 12 which is open to atmosphere and into which liquid flows through a duct 16. Liquid flowing over the weir discharges through a pipe 18. Gas and air carrying the smaller droplets discharge to the analysis apparatus through the outlet 14.
