Abstract
979,846. Filters for liquids ; stationary centrifugal strainer separators. E. & M. LAMORT FILS. Jan. 20, 1961 [Jan. 22, 1960; July 8, 1960], No. 2479/61. Heading B1D. Liquid, e.g. cellulosic pulp, is introduced tangentially at 8, Figs. 1 and 2, to the space 15 outside a tubular screen 2 so that heavy unwanted solids thrown outwards by centrifugal force collect in a lock chamber 14 which is periodically emptied. Lighter unwanted solids follow the liquid current and are conveyed along a pipe 17, Fig. 4, past an open valve 18, and through a constriction 20 into a chamber 16. Dilution water is continuously introduced at 19 to wash acceptable pulp back into space 15 through a screen 23. After a time valve 18 is closed, and after a further time the lighter solids are discharged to waste through a valve 22, Fig. 1. Meanwhile acceptable pulp is being discharged at 11, Figs. 1 and 2, from within screen 2, which is kept clean by blades 4a which create a backflow in their vicinity, and by blades 4b which create suction. The blades rotate in a direction opposite to that of the suspension outside the screen. Preferably a vibrator 9 is secured to the screen 2 and the screen is resiliently mounted so that the casing 1 will not vibrate with it. The liquid may be de-aerated by connecting a vacuum pump at 25, Fig. 1.
