In order to allow for slight relative movements between adjacent sections of a sectional hot-water boiler arising from ageing of the casting, only one of the junctions, Vu, between the water chambers of adjacent sections is provided with a rigid cone type seal, the other junction or junctions Vo having flat sealing faces of which at least one has at least one groove R holding packing (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). The front and rear sections of the boiler or preferably all the sections have lugs or eyes O which may be integral with the sections and through which tensioning bars are passed to hold the sections of the boiler together.
