978,961. Life saving suits. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DES ETABLISSEMENTS Piel. Dec. 11, 1962 [Dec. 12, 1961; April 16, 1962], No. 46695/62. Heading A3V. The invention comprises a diver's garment made from cellular elastic rubber which is provided on its inner surface with a coating of waterproofed fibres extending perpendicularly to the surface and a process of preparing the material wherein fibres are mechanically or electrostatically deposited on the rubber coated with an elastic adhesive comprising rubber of the same kind as the cellular rubber and containing volatile solvents adapted to partially dissolve the fibres. The pile 3 may consist of fibres of polyvinyl chloride which are secured to the rubber 2 by an adhesive. An elastic knitted lining 7 which may be made of nylon may be secured to the other surface of the rubber by adhesive or the fibres may be applied to the lining. The fibres may be secured to a backing sheet by a weak adhesive and applied to the adhesive on the surface of the rubber, slight pressure being applied to the sheet by a roller. The backing sheet is then stripped from the pile or the backing sheet if soluble is dissolved.
