978,935. Plug and socket fastenings. AERPAT A. G. Jan. 25, 1961 [Jan. 25, 1960], No. 2969/61. Heading E2B. A releasable blind fastener for clamping together a plurality of plates 11, 12 having openings therein comprises an open-ended tubular outer body 17 having an abutment end 20 for engaging a surface of one of the plates 11 to be clamped, an open-ended inner body 18 having a head portion positioned within the outer body and having a bolt portion 19 projecting beyond the abutment end for entering aligned said openings 13, 14, in the plates 11, 12, the inner body being movable axially in the outer body, an abutment carried by the outer body to prevent movement of the head portion of the inner body out of the outer body, the inner body having a longitudinal passage, detent means 28, 29 carried adjacent the projecting end of the bolt portion 19 and movable between inner retracted and outer extended positions, the detent means projecting laterally from the inner body when in the extended position to engage one of the plates 12 on its outer surface with the abutment end 20 engaging the outer surface of another of the plates 11, a pin 32 movable in the passage between normal locking and outward unlocking positions and having means 35 therein for moving the detent means into the extended position, when the pin is in the locking position and spring means positioned about the pin and within the outer booy and urging the pin towards the inward locking position and urging the inner body inwardly of the outer body for clamping the plates between the abutment end 20 and the extended detent means, an abutment carried by the inner body to prevent movement of the head of the pin out of the head portion of the inner body, the head of the pin being accessible through the open ends of the outer and inner bodies to enable pressure to be applied to the head of the pin through the open ends to move the pin against the springs means. As shown the spring means consists of the springs 23, 26, but in a modification a single spring is used, an end engaging lateral abutments on both the pin and the inner body; movement of the inner body is restricted in its movement outwardly of the outer body.
