A photographic gelatino-silver halide emulsion or auxiliary layer contains at least 20% lactose based on the weight of the silver halide. The lactose increases the covering power of the silver halide and also acts as an antifoggant. Specifications 592,676, 600,058, 658,588, 658,826, 718,422, and 786,176 are referred to.
