Abstract

The invention comprises compounds containing one or more groupings of the formula <FORM:0978089/C1/1> wherein R represents hydrogen or a methyl group. The above compounds are prepared by reacting a mono- or poly-isocyanide dihalide with an a , b -alkylene-imine of the formula <FORM:0978089/C1/2> in the presence of an acid acceptor. Suitable isocyanide dihalide reactants include alkyl, cycloalkyl and aryl isocyanide dihalides; alkylene and arylene bis-isocyanide dihalides; tetrameric cyanogen chloride; compounds as above in which the aryl nucleus bears trifluoromethyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, aryl, alkoxycarbonyl, halogenocarbonyl, arylazo, nitro, chlorine, bromine and arylsulphonyl substituents; and tris- and tetrakis-compounds which may contain phosphate and thiophosphate residues. Carboxylic acid chloride groups present may react also with the alkyleneimine reactant.
