Abstract

977,912. Switch points for overhead mono-rail systems. BECK & HENKEL MASCHINENBAU A.G. March 1, 1962, No. 7999/62. Heading B7L. A junction for an overhead conveyer track comprises a straight junction portion 7 for connecting two aligned track sections 1, 3, and a turn-out portion 9 for connectng a third track section 2 to the section 3, the portions 7, 9 being positively connected to each other by a link mechanism actuated by a member 11 pivotally mounted in the track section 3, and adapted to be engaged by a load carrier moving along that track section, the member 11 being rigidly connected to a quadrant 13 with an arcuate slot in which slides a pin 15 on a link 16 of the link mechanism. The arrangement is such that the link 16 will only be moved if the member 11 is pivoted in the direction of the arrow 24, whilst movement in the opposite direction only causes the pin 15 to slide in the slot. The link 16 is pivotally connected to a lever 17 pivoted at 18, and this lever engages with one arm 19 of a rigid bell-crank lever 19, 21 pivoted on a pin 20. Links 23, 22 connect the arms 19, 21 with the turn-out and straight portions 9, 7 respectively. The straight portion 7 is pivotally connected by a pin 8 to the track section 1 so as to pivot upwardly at an angle of 45 degrees to the horizontal into alignment between the track sections 1, 3, and the turn-out portion is pivotally connected by a horizontal pin 10 to the track section 2. The turn-out portion 9 is heavier than the portion 7 so that the portions assume the positions shown in Fig. 2. When a load-carrier is moved along the track section 3 in the direction of the arrow 24 to operate the member 11, the linkage is actuated to move the portion 7 into alignment between the track sections 1, 3, and to move the portion 9 upwardly. When the load-carrier moves on to the portion 7 it can then either be moved further to the track section 1, or it can be moved back on to the track section 3 but not so as to operate the member 11, which has been returned to its upright position by a counterweight 27, when the portion 9 will fall into alignment with the track section 3 due to its greater weight and the load-carrier may be moved on to the track section 2. Movement of a carrier from the track section 1 to the sections 2 or 3 and from the track section 2 to either of the sections 1 or 3 may also be effected by suitable movements of the carrier over the junction.
