Abstract

977,890. Sewing machines. SINGER CO. May 9, 1963 [May 14, 1962], No. 18330/63. Heading D1G. [Also in Division E2] A panel is hinged to a sewing machine carrying case base member of synthetic plastics by a hinge including a leaf 34 which is disposed within a cavity in a projection 60 of the base. The leaf 34 is formed of spring steel and has an end plate 41, side plates 42, 52 and H-shaped plates 44, 54 provided with prongs 47, 48, 57, 58. The base 16, shown inverted in Fig. 4 has a plastics projection 60 provided with a central cavity 61 receiving the plates 41, 42, 52, of the leaf 34, and the end of the other leaf 36 which is pivoted to the first leaf at 37 and is embraced by plates 42, 52. Side cavities 64, 74 receive the H-plates 44, 54 and the leaf 34 is retained in the projection by the prongs 47, 48, 57, 58. The leaf 36 emerges from apertures 83, 84, in the base and is secured at 38 to the flap 31. The movement of the leaf is limited in both directions by the engagement of the edge 40 of leaf 36 with the plate 41 of the leaf 34.
