Abstract

977,875. Drain pipes. OEDERLIN & CIE A.G. June 29, 1961 [June 29, 1960], No. 23607/61. Heading E1C. A branch unit for a liquid waste down pipe has an inlet 3 at one end to direct liquid waste into a mixing chamber, as shown in Fig. 1, to leave it through an outlet 4 at the other end in the same or a substantially parallel direction to that in which it enters it, in which manner of entry guide means, such as an annular rim 7 of variable width, and an inlet 5 of the branch unit direct a second stream of waste into the chamber 1. Two additional inlets can be arranged at 8. The inlet 3 and the outlet 4 have the same or substantially the same axial direction. At 10 the total flow cross-section of the chamber 1 is at least equal to the larger free cross-section in either of the two inlets. It is at least 75% of the sum of the free crosssections of the inlets 3, 5. One incoming stream may be guided by means of an arcuate member or a bent conduit into the other one. The cross-sections of incoming stream passages may be about the same size just before where they meet at 10 and may be substantially constant in cross-section. In the form shown in Fig. 6 there is a deflecting device 6 which is an extension of half the periphery of the pipe 21 and a mixing chamber 20 tapering towards the outlet 23. Fig. 8 also shows a form where the pipe 21 is extended and the shape of the periphery of the chamber 20 has approximately the outline of two intersecting circles. In the modification of Fig. 12 the axes of the pipes 21 and 23 are coincident and the air-supply union 22 is connected obliquely to the unit. An additional feed pipe can be provided at 24.
