Abstract

977,760. Making cartons. J. BOBST & FILS S.A. Sept. 19, 1962 [Sept. 27, 1961], No. 35743/62. Heading B5D. [Also in Division B6] A flap 3, Figs. 1 and 2, of a cardboard sheet 1 is partly folded by an elastic blade 5, and the folding is completed by a rigid guide 6. After the blade has raised the flap, the blade is allowed to drop to position 5<SP>1</SP> by a piston 7 actuated by compressed air supplied through an electromagnetic valve controlled by a roller feeler 9 engaging part of the sheet. In a folding- gluing machine, Fig. 7, a sheet having flaps 13, 14<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>11</SP>, is passed between guides 15, 16 on to transport belts 17, 18, 19. The flaps 13 are first folded by conventional means, and the flaps 14 are then folded by elastic blades 20, pistons 21, guides 22 and a feeler 23. The flaps 1411 are then folded by blades 25, pistons 26, folding rollers 27, and a feeler 28. The folding elements below the working plane (22, 25, 26) are mounted on tubes carried by a fixed frame, while the elements above said plane (20, 21, 23, 27, 28) are mounted on tubes carried by a frame pivoted to the fixed frame so as to be swingable upwards to give access to the lower elements. Alternatively, the lower frame may be movable downwards. An assembly comprising a blade 39, Fig. 8, and a piston cylinder 32, secured together by blocks 35, 37, a stem 34 and a screw 36, includes a flange 31 secured to a tube 30 by a screw 311.
