A circular knitting machine has at least one pivoted yarn feeder which moves in an arcuate path from non-feeding position to a point just above and clear of the highest needles at that feed and then rectilinearly downward in front of the needle hooks. As shown, at one feed of a multifeed machines, four feeders F are provided each comprising a lever 15 pivoted on a common pin 19 mounted between the spaced links 13a of a bracket 13 secured to latch-ring 10. Each lever 15 comprises a knuckle 15a which fits into a socket 16a in the upper end of a profiled arm 16 whose lower end is slotted (16b) to receive a folded blade 17 carrying a yarn guiding tube 18. A recess 16c in the rear edge of each arm 16 adjacent a straight port 16d engages a pin 20 extending between links 13a and each arm 16 is biased by a spring 22. Bracket 13 is slotted to receive the sheaths 25 of Bowden cables 26 which are connected one to each lever 15 by a spherical element 27 and a spring latch 28. When a cable 26 pulls down a lever 15 its arm 16 rises straight edge 16d sliding on rod 20 until a portion 15c on the end of lever 15 engages a straight port 16e of arm 16 when arm 16 will move in an arcuate path. A ring 29 with teeth 30 rotates with the needle cylinder 1, being driven by a welt dial 3, cuts yarns removed from operation by the engagement of teeth 30 with a fixed cutter assembly 31 having a sharpened tungsten carbide tip. A cover 36 associated with ring 29 is placed under suction to hold the free ends of yarns and to remove any short pieces.
