[Also in Division G3] A cistern supply valve 27, Fig. 2, controlling the passage of water from an inlet 15 to outlets 24 in the cistern, one of which leads to a closet bowl, is of the diaphragm type with a tapered plug member 29 having an orifice 30 whereby a chamber 28 downstream of the valve is always open to the inlet 15; the pressure in the chamber 28 is controlled by a pilot valve 33 with a conical tip 35. Slidable on the chamber 28 is a float 18 having an eccentrically disposed conical surface 36, and an opening 40 in its side wall. The tapered plug 29 which deflects debris from the orifice 30 and prevents clogging thereof, is made of non-corrosive material. When the liquid is at the required level in the cistern the pilot valve 33 closes a bleed outlet 31 and the pressure in chamber 38 seats the supply valve 27. Upon emptying the cistern the float 18 descends, which float contains water up to the level of the opening 40; the surface 36 co-operates with the tip 35 to tilt and open the pilot valve 33 so relieving the pressure on chamber 28, the supply valve 27 being opened by the inlet pressure thereunder. As the water level rises above the opening 40 it traps air in the upper part of the float and the latter rises until the pilot valve 33 again seats, which pilot valve is of material having a lesser specific gravity than water, until the pressure has built up in chamber 28 via the orifice 30, sufficiently to close the supply valve 27 water continues to fill the tank and the closet bowl. In a modification, the float consists of an air chamber 20<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, a water chamber 20<SP>11</SP>, and a pilot valve actuator 19<SP>1</SP>, the two former chambers having their inner walls 43, 46 telescopically arranged. The actuator 19<SP>1</SP> is snap fitted to the wall 46 and is in threaded engagement with the wall 43 whereby the height of the opening 40<SP>1</SP> and hence the normal level of water in the cistern is adjustable. The wall 13<SP>1</SP> of the chamber downstream of the supply valve 27 is splined to centre the float and allow the passage of water therebetween. The diaphragm 27 is held in place by a ring 55 with a dished under surface 56, the ring incorporating flange portions 59, 60 co-operating with an annular casing flange 61 to lock the diaphragm.
