Abstract

1,092,555. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. W.H. GALLOGLY. March 8, 1965 [March 11, 1964], No. 9654/65. Heading G3P. [Also in Division F2] An inlet valve for a toilet cistern comprises a diaphragm 23 which co-operates with a seating 26 around an outlet which is connected by a passage 33 and annular space 34 to an outlet pipe 35. An inlet 11 is connected by a passage 29 to a space surrounding the valve seat 26 and also through a passage 30 to a chamber 25 at the upper side of the diaphragm. The chamber 25 is connected by a part 39 to a second chamber 38 having an outlet leading to passage 33 controlled by a ball valve 42. The ball 42 is actuated by a rod 43 and actuator 44 which is engaged by a lever 45, pivoted at 46, and carrying a float 47. In operation, when the toilet is flushed, a lever 48 raises the actuator 44 to open the ball valve 42 and thus connect chamber 25 to the outlet and the inlet pressure that actuates the diaphragm to allow flow to the cistern. When the liquid level in the cistern reaches the desired level, the float rises to allow the ball 42 to seat and thus cause closure of the diaphragm 23. If the water should not rise, due to a fault in the flushing valve, a reservoir 51 receives water through a part 50 from passage 33 and thus actuates the lever 45 to close the ball valve 42 after a predetermined time. A piece of elastic foam material 25' in the chamber 25 prevents shocks. This may be replaced by an air capsule or a spring-loaded member.
