Abstract
977,503. Advancing mine-roof supports. GUILICK Ltd. Oct. 22, 1962 [Nov. 2, 1961], No. 39198/61. Heading E1E. In a roof support having a roof-supporting beam 15, 16 which projects as a cantilever therefrom, the beam 15, 16 has an extension bar 23 for advancing manually relative thereto, movably supported thereon so as to conform to roof irregularities and wedge means is provided to apply the extension bar 23 to the roof. The bar 23 is mounted for angular movement to do so within the part 16 of the beam 15, 16. After advancement the bar 23 is applied to the roof by means of a wedge 28 driven through an opening 25 in the bar 23 to bear against the underside of the plate 16c and against stops 29. The part 16 is of somewhat box-like section with a top plate 16a, side walls 16b and bottom flanges on the plate 16c, spaced apart to form a gap 22, in which the bar 23 is slidably located. To bear against the roof a top plate 26 is secured to the bar 23 and includes a bar 27 pivoting on the plate flanges. With a rotary cam wedge device the roof beam 15, 16 has a concave seating on its underside to bear on an accommodating convex upper part of the bar 23, or vice-versa.
