A motor 26 which drives a centrifugal disc 41 is enclosed within an inner casing 34 spaced from an outer casing 35 by radial ribs 23 to provide an outlet duct 36 for the spray produced by liquid being thrown off the disc against a stationary baffle ring 40. Liquid is drawn on to the upper surface of the disc from a liquid container 10 by a suction tube 49, and vanes 51 on the disc underside draw air into the apparatus through inlets 18 in a carrier ring 15 resting loosely on the rim of the container. Openings 52 in the disc are partly surrounded by U-shaped collars 53 extending between the disc and a further annular disc 55, and air flows through those openings to the disc upper surface and then passes radially through the ring 40 and carries away the spray through an outlet 37. The carrier ring includes a sludge separator 68, an air baffle 60, 61, radial vanes 63, and a trough 62 with nipples 64 whereby liquid droplets collected m the trough are returned to the container. A cylindrical wall 19 in front of the openings 18 provides a noise shield, and a float 72 with a head 74 at the end of a stem 73 slidably located in a sleeve 75 constitutes a liquid level indicator. The inner and outer casings 34, 35, the motor and disc, and the ring 40 comprise an assembly which rests on the carrier ring. As shown, labyrinth packings 48, 56, 57 and 58 are arranged between the stationary and rotating parts.
