Abstract
976,895. Doors for boilers. YGNIS S.A. Feb. 7, 1963 [Feb. 26, 1962; May 9, 1962], No. 5048/63. Heading F2P. [Also in Division E2] A boiler has a pivotally-mounted component 2 through which a fluid is intended to flow, wherein the pivotal mounting is a threepart hinge comprising a first part 7, 8 fixed to the boiler, a rotary second part 5, 6 which supports the component 2 and_permits fluid to flow to or from the component, and a fixed third part 15, 16 which is connected to a fluid supply or discharge conduit 3, 4, 17, 18. The second and third parts are in fluid-communication with one another in all rotary positions of the second part and the first fixed part takes the weight of the component. In the construction shown a spigot 46 at one end of the second part is housed in a bearing box 47 of the first part. The spigot 46 is provided with a groove 45 which co-operates with the equispaced screws of the bearing box and a sealing ring groove 48. The second part is formed at its other end with a trunnion 34 which is held in a bushing 36 of a flange 11 by a flanged screw and pin 43. This friction bearing may be replaced by a ball bearing (Fig. 3a, not shown). In a modification the bearing sealing means comprises a stack of sealing rings held between a shoulder of the third part and an adjusting ring. The adjusting ring is depressed against the sealing rings by the wedge surface of a number of part annular segments, the segments being moved radially of the hinge by screws of the third part (Fig. 5, not shown). In a further embodiment (Figs. 6, 7, not shown) the second part is of larger diameter than the third part, the former being closed by a divided ring the inner periphery of which co-operates with a groove of the third part. A plurality of adjusting screws housed in the divided ring act against the stack of sealing rings placed between the second and third parts. The end of each screw which is in contact with the sealing rings may be of triangular or part circular cross-section (Figs. 6a, 6b, not shown).
