Abstract

976,782. Television. COLUMBIA BROADCASTING SYSTEM Inc. Aug. 30, 1962 [Aug. 31, 1961], No. 33354/62. Heading H4F. [Also in Division H1] Light projected through or reflected from a film 13, Fig. 1, is formed by a mask 14 into a narrow line image 17, having a width of 1 mil. or less, e.g. one-half mil., at the photocathode 18 of an image dissector tube 19, the electron image produced being swept horizontally across a narrow slit 21 of similar width to the electron image but extending perpendicularly to it. The optical image may be transferred from the film 13, Fig. 3, to the photocathode 18 by a fibre optic strip incorporated in the tube faceplate 32. A mask 33 with narrow slit 34 may also be incorporated in the tube.
