Abstract
976,614. Heated respiratory masks. L. A. TERMAN. April 23, 1963 [May 7, 1962; Jan. 9, 1963], No. 16050/63. Headings A5R and A5T. A respiratory mask of air-pervious material is shaped to form an air pocket in front of the user's breathing orifices and includes a removable heating element. The mask comprises one or two layers of nylon tricot or gauze bound together along the edges. A strip 9 of deformable metal or plastic is enclosed in the binding along the top edge of the mask so that it may be shaped to conform to the wearer's nose. Air exhaust openings 13 are formed in the bottom edge of the mask. An electrical or chemical heating element is removably disposed in a pocket 15 formed between the layers of the mask or by the addition of a layer. An electrical heating element 16 comprises wire 24, 25 encapsulated in an insulating strip and connected to a plug 26. The plug is attached to a battery 29 which is separate from the mask. The strip has perforations 27 for the passage of air between the wires.
