Abstract

976,596. Rollers. BENTELER INTERTEX ORGANISATIONS A.G. Sept. 21, 1962 [Sept. 28, 1961], No. 36085/62. Heading F2U. [Also in Division B6] A transverse stretching device or spreader for webs comprises a cylindrical shell of parallel bars or slats 3 mounted for axial movement on a supporting member 1. The supporting member is cylindrical and has stub shafts 5, one of which has a driving gear wheel 8. The slats 3 ride on rails 2, Fig. 4 and are divided lengthwise into at least two parts. In Fig. 1, a central portion 3a is fixed relatively to the supporting member 1 and two outer portions 3b and 3c are articulated with pins 16 to rctating swash-plates 13 which provide the axial movement. Each swash-plate 13 is mounted for rotation about a stationary bush 12 and each bush 12 is pivoted at 11 to a tube 10. A coupling rod 22 connecting two levers 17 fixed to the bushes 12, has left and righthand threads at respective ends and is used to adjust the angular positions of the swashplates 13. The rod 22 can also be displaced to one side with a threaded projection 23 to give unequal angular adjustment of the swashplates. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the slats forming the surface of the roller are of different lengths thereby staggering the gaps. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the angular position of each swashplate can be adjusted individually. The variation in position of the coupling rod 22 may be dependent on an edge senser.
