975,105. Prestressed building structures; reinforcing tanks. STRESSED CONCRETE DESIGN Ltd. March 6, 1961 [March 4, 1960], No. 7799/60. Headings E1T and E1V. In a method of pre-stressing a circular building structure, each prestressing cable 5 comprises a plurality of endless loops of wires which extend through peripherally spaced grille members 5a serving to locate the wires and prevent entanglement, and the cables are tensioned by means of a plurality of hydraulic jacks 7 disposed around the structure and acting on the grille members to displace them radially outwards after which spacer members 2a are inserted between the grille members and the structure to maintain the tension when the jacks are removed. Neither the individual wires in each cable nor the corresponding grille openings are shown in the drawings. Each of the wires may itself comprise a stranded cable.
