Abstract

974,650. Utilizing solar heat. NIPPON ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 3, 1963, No. 17677/63. Heading F4U. [Also in Division B1] Water is obtained from ground soil by placing an enclosure comprising a transparent top plate 22 and an open base over the soil in such a position that radiation from the sun passes through the transparent plate on to the enclosed soil; the water vapour thereby evaporated from the soil condenses on metallic plate 24, and the condensate runs down into trough 27 which is connected by a pipe 28 to the receiver 29 for the distilled water. In the embodiment shown, there are two parallel transparent plates 22, made of glass or polystyrene, forming a heat-insulating space containing air or neon gas.
