Abstract
A dispersion comprises 1 to 95% by weight of discrete particles of iron, cobalt and nickel having substantially uniform diameters in the range of from 10 to 1000 <\>rA units and 99 to 5% by weight of a dispering medium comprising one or more copolymers of monomers containing a single polymerizable group, or a solution of said copolymer(s) in a solvent having an acid dissociation constant less than 10-20, said copolymer(s) having a molecular weight of at least 20,000 and having a carbon and hydrogen content of from 60 to 100%, the metal particles being encapsulated by said dispersing medium. The dispersions are made by decomposing compounds of the metals in the polymer dispersion and, if necessary, concentrating the dispersion. The polymer exemplified is a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and polyethyleneglycol (1800) methyl methacrylate.ALSO:A dispersion comprises 1 to 95% by weight of discrete particles of iron, cobalt and nickel having substantially uniform diameters in the range of from 10 to 1,000 <\>rA units and 99 to 5% by weight of a dispersing medium comprising one or more copolymers of monomers containing a single polymerizable group, or a solution of said copolymer(s) in a solvent having an acid dissociation constant less than 10-20, said copolymer(s) having a molecular weight of at least 20,000 and having a carbon and hydrogen content of from 60 to 100%, the metal particles being encapsulated by said dispersing medium.
