Abstract
798,751. Discharge apparatus. PATELHOLD PATENTVERWERTUNGS- & ELEKTRO-HOLDING AKT.-GES. May 24, 1955 [May 28, 1954], No. 14932/55. Class 39(1). Mercury is introduced into an electric discharge device by heating, on a carrier inside the device, a mixture of mercury oxide with a quickacting reducing medium and a slow-acting reducing medium to retard the otherwise explosive speed of the reaction. A suitable mixture is HgO + Zr (as quick-acting medium) + Fe (as retarding medium) in the ratio 1 : 1 : 2. A pill of this mixture is fixed to a nickel carrier, and induction heated to about 700‹C., which initiates a thermite reaction. Nickel, manganese, chromium, or cobalt are alternatives to iron.
