Abstract
974,578. Magnetic vibration dampers. CESKOSLOVENSKE ZAVODY NAFTOVYCH MOTORU PRAHA NARODNI PODNIK. Feb. 28, 1963, No. 8141/63. Heading F2S. In a vibration damper particularly for attenuating resonant vibrations of the control rod 2 in a diesel engine fuel injection pump 1 at certain engine speeds and loads pole shoes on a magnetic shunt are disposed on the rod 2 and the poles of a magnet are located adjacent the shoes on shunt with the interposition of a small air gap so as to form a magnetic circuit through the shoes on shunt. As shown in Fig. 1, the axially movable control rod 2 projects from the injection pump casing 1 and carries a pair of shoe rings 3 which are separated by small air gaps 8 from the pole pieces of a horse-shoe magnet 4 which is preferably an electromagnet as shown provided with a coil 5 supplied with current from a power supply 7 and controlled by a variable resistance 9 and a switch 10. The magnetic flux in the air gaps damps vibrational movements from its pre-set position indicated in Fig. 1. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), a magnetic shunt is provided through an air gap between a pair of branch-arms which extend inwardly toward each other from the legs of the horse-shoe magnet. In a further modification, Fig. 3, a single shoe ring 16 forms a magnetic shunt through a gap 8 for a magnet having a gap 15 between its pole pieces.
