A control unit for refrigerants has separate push-button switches 2 . . . 6 for switching on and off, low, medium and high temperature settings, and defrost respectively. Preferably, at the completion of defrosting, the previously operative refrigeration temperature is again automatically made operative. The unit is combined with the thermostat or other control and may include a lamp 7 operated by opening of the door and serving to illuminate both the unit and the storage compartment.
