Abstract
C1-3-chlorohydrocarbon solvents are stabilized by the inclusion of an aromatic nitro compound, suitably in amounts of 0.01-1% by weight of the solvent. These solvents include methylene chloride, methyl chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, and particularly tri- and perchlorethylene. Many suitable nitro compounds are specified but 2: 4-dinitrotoluene is favoured.ALSO:Non-aqueous phosphatizing compositions comprise (a) phosphoric acid, and (b) a solubilizing agent for the phosphoric acid which is suitably an acid C3-8-alkyl phosphate or a C3-8-aliphatic alcohol, butyl or amyl alcohols being preferred, dispersed in (c) a C1-3-chlorohydrocarbon solvent such as methylene chloride, methyl chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, and particularly tri- and per-chlorethylene, which also contains as a stabilizer (d) an aromatic nitro compound. (a) and (b) generally comprise 0.05-7.5% and 1-10% by weight of the bath respectively, while (d) is usually present in amounts of 0.01-1.0% by weight of (c). Many suitable aromatic nitro compounds (d) are specified but 2:4-dinitro-toluene is preferred.
