974,059. Laminates. TURNER & BROWN Ltd. Oct. 24, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1962], No. 46390/62. Heading B5N. Fabricated articles of high chemical inertness comprise an outer layer of ceramic tiles bonded by means of a self-hardening synthetic resin cement to a polyester-resin-impregnated laminated glass fibre cloth backing. Suitable synthetic resins include " Asplit ' O ' " (Registered Trade Mark) and furane resin. In making, the tiles are laid face down in a former of the required shape, the synthetic resin cement is applied to the back thereof, followed by a layer of polyester resin-impregnated glass fibre cloth, and the whole cold cured. Open joints in the tiles may be pointed with the cement. The invention is suitable for making tanks, fume cabinets and laboratory working surfaces. According to the Provisional Specification, a cloth of P.V.C. monofilament may be included in the backing layer, and the resin known as " Epicote " (Registered Trade Mark) may be used instead of polyester resin.
