974, 007. Analogue-to-digital converters. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Sept. 29,1961 [Sept, 30,1960; Feb. 17,1961], No. 35272/61. Heading G4H. In an analogue-to-digital converter the difference voltage between the input analogue voltage and a reference voltage is converted to a pulse of the same amplitude which is applied to an amplifier controlling the reference voltage and comprising a plurality of D.C.-decoupled amplifier/limiter stages. A suitable circuit for the amplifier in each stage is shown in Fig. 6. The time constant of each successive stages, determined by L.R 1 chosen to be smaller than that of the preceding stage, preferably by a factor equal to the gain of the stage. The arrangement prevents the mean D.C. voltage transmitted through the amplifier from becoming larger than the smallest difference voltages produced at the end of the conversion process.
