Abstract

4-Methylpentene-1 is polymerized at a pressure of at least 2,000 psig. using a catalyst such as ditertiary butyl peroxide, tertiary butyl hydroperoxide, dicumyl peroxide, diethyl peroxide, lauroyl peroxide, benzoyl peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, dialkyl peroxy carbonate, alkali or alkaline earth persulphate, ammonium persulphate, azobisisobutyryldinitrile, oxygen or air. The polymerization may be in bulk or in a solvent such as cyclohexane or benzene. The products are viscous liquids of boiling point above 240 DEG C. and of molecular weight 460 to 675.ALSO:4-Methylpentene-1 is polymerized at a pressure of at least 2000 p.s.i.g. using a catalyst such as tertiary butyl hydroperoxide, ditertiary butyl peroxide, dicumyl peroxide, diethyl peroxide, lauroyl peroxide, benzoyl peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, dialkyl peroxycarbonate, alkali or alkaline earth or ammonium persulphate, azobisisobutyryl dinitrile, oxygen or air. The polymerization may be in bulk or in a solvent such as cyclohexane or benzene. The products are viscous liquids of boiling point above 240 DEG C. and of molecular weight 460 to 675.
