Abstract

The invention comprises copper cobalt nickel manganese or iron compounds of water-insoluble azo dyes having the general formula <FORM:0973732/C4-C5/1> in which R1 and R2 each represent an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or cycloalkyl group or R1 and R2 taken together with the nitrogen represent a heterocyclic radical, R3 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group, or a group of the formula -CO-NR1R2 where R1 and R2 have the meanings given above, X represents a sulphonyl or carbonyl group, A represents a naphthalene, anthracene, diphenylene oxide, carbazole or benzocarbazole radical, R represents a radical of the benzene, naphthalene, diphenyl or diphenylene oxide series and n represents the integer 1 or 2. The dyes are prepared by reacting appropriate diazonium compounds and coupling compounds and treating the dyes formed with appropriate metal yielding agents. The latter process may be carried out in the presence of a dispersing agent. Examples are furnished.ALSO:Textile fibres are coloured by complex copper, cobalt, nickel, manganese or iron compounds of water-insoluble azo dyes having the general formula <FORM:0973732/D1-D2/1> in which R1 and R2 each represent an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl group, or R1 and R2 taken together with the nitrogen atom represent a heterocyclic radical, R3 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group, or a group of the formula -CO N R1 R2 where R1 and R2 have the meanings given above, X represents a carbonyl or sulphonyl group, A represents a naphthalene, anthracene, diphenylene oxide, carbazole or benzocarbazole radical, R represents a radical of the benzene, naphthalene, diphenyl or diphenylene oxide series and n represents an integer 1 or 2 produced by coupling on this fibre a diazonium compound of an amine having the general formula <FORM:0973732/D1-D2/2> in which R1, R2, R3 and X have the meanings given above with an appropriate arylide of an aromatic or heterocyclic ortho-hydroxycarboxzlic acid and treating the azo dye formed with an agent yielding the appropriate metal. The metallising agent may be added to the developing or impregnation bath or metallisation may be carried out in a bath following the coupling process. Fibres specified include cotton, wool, silk, polyamide and acetylcellulose fibres. The dyeing is carried out in baths containing conventional ingredients such as wetting agents and/or detergents e.g. products obtained by condensing ethylene oxide with fatty alcohols, alkyl phenols and naphthols, fatty acid amides and fatty acid polyglycol esters. Examples are furnished.
