Abstract

972,493. Reinforced concrete structures; clamps. ED. ZUBLIN A.G. Oct. 24, 1960 [Oct. 24, 1959], No. 36354/60. Headings E1V and E2B. A method of making a reinforced concrete beam includes the steps of attaching clamps 1 to the vertical limbs 2 of stirrups forming part of the reinforcement, supporting a cross rod 4 between portions of corresponding clamps on opposite limbs of the same stirrup and mounting a longitudinal reinforcing member 9 on the cross rods. Concrete is then cast round the assembly so formed. As shown the clamp comprises a U-shaped member the limbs of which are provided with openings to receive a short rod 8 between which and the base of the U-shaped member the limb 2 is received. The limb 2 is clamped against the rod 8 by means of a screw 3 which passes through a bore 7 in the base of the U-shaped member. Recesses are provided in the edges of the limbs of the U-shaped member to support the cross rod 4 at right angles to the stirrup limb 2. In a modification a wedge is used to secure the U-shaped member to the stirrup limb 2; the wedge replaces the screw and the rod 8. In a further modification which uses a screw 3 and rod 8, instead of recesses to support the cross rod 4 additional openings are provided in the limbs of the U-shaped member. In another construction, Fig. 3, the U-shaped member is modified in that one of the limbs is bent and extends through an aperture in the other limb and the stirrup limb 2 is clamped between the bent part of the limb and the base of the U by a screw 3 as in some of the previous constructions. The cross rod 4 passes through an aperture in the other limb.
