Abstract

972,023. Wet-melt-spinning. ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH N.V. May 7, 1962 [May 17, 1961], No. 17549/62. Heading B5B. Apparatus for the manufacture of monofilaments by wet melt-spinning comprises an extrusion apparatus with a downwardly directed spinneret 2, a cooling trough 4 positioned below the spinneret, a thread guiding member 5 placed in the trough, a thread discharge device 21 and a cooling liquid supply unit 8 having one or more outflow openings 13 directed towards the path of the thread in the cooling trough. The liquid supply unit may be divided vertically into sections 12, each of which is connected to a supply line 10. Alternatively, the liquid supply unit may consist of a box-shaped element (not shown) placed in the cooling trough and connected to a liquid supply line, and fitted with outflow openings. A series of such box-shaped elements may be placed one above another. As shown, the liquid supply unit preferably comprises a horizontal tube 9 closed at one end, which tube passes through the wall of the cooling trough, on the outside of which it is connected to a supply line, there being vertical tubes 12 rising from the horizontal tube, which vertical tubes have outflow openings 13 directed towards the connecting lines between the spinneret orifices and the points at which threads first come into contact with the thread guiding member. Each liquid supply unit may be fed from a collecting vessel 16 into which the liquid from the cooling trough overflows. A channel 18 sloping down towards the cooling trough and having a liquid inlet at its upper end 19 and a liquid outlet at its lower end may be positioned between the cooling trough and the thread discharge device 21. The coolant may be water or paraffin. Specified materials include polyamides, e.g. polyamino caproic acid.
