Abstract
Dyestuff compositions comprise a reactive dyestuff and a tertiary amine of the formula: <FORM:0971919/D1-D2/1> wherein R1 and R2 each represent a methyl radical and R3 is a possibly substituted aliphatic radical or at least two of R1, R2 and R3 are joined or fused together to form with the N atom a heterocyclic ring or rings wherein the N is linked to the C atoms therein either through single bonds or through a single bond and a double bond. Many suitable reactive groupings are specified and these may be present attached to dyes of the azo, nitro, anthraquinone, polycyclic vat or phthalocyanine dyestuff series. The dyes are preferably water-soluble and may contain co-ordinately bound atoms of Cu, Cr, Ni and Co. A large number of suitable tertiary amines are specified including cyclic and polycyclic amines the preferred amine being 1 : 4-diazabicyclo(2 : 2 : 2)-octane. The preferred proportions are 1 mol dyestuff to 0.01-0.5 mol amine. The compositions may be prepared by grinding the constituents together. The compositions may also contain sodium chloride, sodium sulphate, urea, cetyl trimethylammonium bromide, sodium tri iso propyl-naphthalene sulphonate and condensates of ethylene oxide with amines, alcohols and alkylphenols. The amines may be used in the form of their salts. Acid-binding agents (a number are specified) may be applied before, after or together with the dyestuff composition. Textile materials of cotton, regenerated cellulose, wool, silk, cellulose acetate, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, and aromatic polyester may be dyed with the present compositions by dyeing, padding or printing techniques. A number of methods for dyeing and printing materials of cellulose, wool and polyamide are described. When the reactive dye is water-insoluble it may be ground in aqueous dispersion together with the tertiary amine by gravel milling in the presence of a dispersing agent, e.g., sulphonated naphthalene-formaldehyde condensates, sulphosuccinic acid esters, Turkey Red Oil, alkylphenol-ethylene oxide condensate and soap, with or without a protective colloid, e.g. dextrin, British gum and water-soluble proteins. If desired the aqueous paste so obtained may be dried to form a re-dispersible powder which may be converted to a non-dusting powder by known methods. Examples of dyeing cotton and viscose materials are given.
