Abstract
A non-volatile high molecular organic isocyanate solution is manufactured by reacting a saturated aliphatic polyhydric alcohol with more than 1 mol. organic diisocyanate (b.p. below 300 DEG C.) selected from saturated aliphatic arylene and aryl-alkylene diisocyanates, per mol. of hydroxyl group in the alcohol, removing uncharged diisocyanate by liquid-liquid extraction at below the m.p. of said high molecular isocyanate with a mixed extractant consisting of Y saturated aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbons or mixtures thereof and X-acetic acid alkyl esters, alkyl carbonates, dialkylketones, dialkylethers, alkoxyalkyl acetates, chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons, wherein selected extractant X has a higher b.p. than selected extractant Y; Y is then removed by fractional distillation, with or without addition of further X to give the desired solution in extractant X.
