971,627. Polyethylene waxes. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Nov. 16, 1960 [Nov. 16, 1959], No. 39272/60. Addition to 869,534. Heading C3P. Polyethylene waxes may be prepared by modifications of the process claimed in the parent Specification for polymerizing ethylene in the presence of a non-metallic polymerization catalyst and in the presence of a saturated straight or branched chain acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon containing 3 to 7 carbon atoms and in the absence of other solvent or diluent, in which modifications (I) the acyclic hydrocarbon contains at least one secondary or tertiary hydrogen atom and is used in amount of 50 to 95% by weight based on ethylene, and (2) the acyclic hydrocarbon is propane, is present in amount of 40 to 50% by weight, the temperature is 180 to 250‹C., and optionally the pressure is 10,000 to less than 15,000 p.s.i. The waxes may be used for melt coating paper and metal foil.
