Abstract
970,984. Skid rails for metal heating furnaces. PRIEST FURNACES Ltd., and SPENCERBONECOURT-CLARKSON Ltd. Sept. 22, 1961 [Sept. 26, 1960], No. 33044/60. Heading F4B. In a continuous metal heating furnace the water-cooled skid rails 1 are disposed in metallined recesses 10 and 11 in a front wall 2 and hearth 3 respectively, and supported by watercooled tubes 12 as in Specification 970,983, the rear parts 4 of the rails passing through openings 5 in the hearth and the downwardly disposed front extensions 13 being disposed in clamps 14. Each clamp 14, Fig. 4, comprises a U-shaped bracket 15 bolted to the wall 2, strengthening plates 18 and 19 welded thereto, and stirrups 20 engaged by bolts 22, which are adjusted to allow expansion of the rail if the opening becomes blocked with scale &c. The rails have load-supporting shoes 9 and form part of an evaporative cooling system.
