Abstract

Ionisation radiation indicators comprising a resin which liberates acid under ionising radiation and an acid-base indicator, are prepared by impregnating the resin with a solution of the indicator in a medium containing a swelling agent for the resin and water or an aliphatic alcohol. The resin may be a vinyl or vinylidene chloride polymer. Specified alcohols are ethanol and ethylene glycol. Specified swelling agents are ketones and esters. In examples indicators are prepared by impregnating films of a mixture of polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl acetate with solutions of (1) methyl orange in acetone and water, and (2) methyl orange in amyl acetate, ethanol and water. Other specified indicators are, thymol blue, methyl red, bromophenol blue bromocresol green and bromocresol purple.
